You make three dishes from scratch in a home kitchen, not a cooking school.
A private cooking class in Modena where you shop the local market with a Cesarina home cook, then prepare three authentic regional recipes in her kitchen and eat them with local wines. The class runs 4.5 hours and includes all ingredients, utensils and instruction. Your guide speaks English or Italian.
The Experience
The morning starts at the vibrant local market with your Cesarina, who shows you where to find the ingredients for the day's recipes. You'll visit traditional food shops that locals use, learning what makes each ingredient matter for Modenese cooking. This is not a tourist walk. You're shopping for a real meal you'll cook in the next few hours, and your guide points out the seasonal produce and regional specialties that define the cuisine.
Back at the Cesarina's home, you move to the kitchen where each participant gets a full workstation with utensils and all the ingredients already measured out. Over the next few hours, you make a seasonal starter, fresh pasta (choose between tortellini, lasagna or tagliatelle), and a traditional Modenese dessert like torta Barozzi, zuppa inglese or tiramisu. Your host reveals the techniques and tricks that make each dish work, and you do the hands-on work (rolling, shaping, layering) rather than watching a demonstration. The class is small and private, so there's room to ask questions and adjust to your pace.
When everything is ready, you sit down to taste all three courses you've made, paired with a selection of local red and white wines. Water and coffee come with the meal. The Cesarina network operates across Italy with over 1,000 home cooks, so the experience is rooted in real domestic cooking, not a commercial kitchen.
