The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel or location in the Delhi region. The driver arrives in a climate-controlled private car and takes the Yamuna Expressway toward Agra, a drive of roughly three hours. Once you arrive, an Agra-native guide meets you and takes you straight to the Taj Mahal. Because opening time depends on the sunrise, the guide times your entry to catch the monument when the marble is still translucent and the light is softest. This is the only hour when the stone glows the way it was built to glow.

After the Taj Mahal, the tour moves to Agra Fort, the residence of the Mughal dynasty until 1638 and built by the emperor Akbar. The guide walks you through both monuments and explains the history: the Taj Mahal as Shah Jahan's monument to his wife Mumtaz, the fort as the seat of power. If you've chosen the breakfast or lunch option, you stop at a 5-star restaurant (Double Tree by Hilton, Bon Barbecue, Taj Mahal Restaurant or another of your pick) and eat before heading back, or after, depending on your pickup time. The meal is your choice from the menu.

The tour also includes Itmad-ud-Daula, a smaller, jewel-box mausoleum built by Nur Jahan for her father. It's less crowded than the Taj Mahal and offers a quieter look at Mughal architecture. By early afternoon, the driver takes you back to Delhi, dropping you at your original location. Mineral water is provided throughout, and all tolls, fuel and parking are covered in the price.
