The Experience

The drive from Delhi to Agra takes three hours on the Yamuna Expressway — one of the better roads in the country — and you'll be picked up from your hotel or any location in Delhi, Gurgaon, or Noida in a private air-conditioned car. The driver speaks English and will stop whenever you need water, a bathroom break, or just to stretch. By the time you arrive, your guide is already waiting at the Taj Mahal entrance with your tickets in hand, which means you skip the line entirely and walk straight through.

The guide takes you inside and through the grounds — the same vantage points the Mughal emperors once looked out from — and you can stay as long as you want. They'll photograph you if you ask, and they know the history of the place in detail: who built it, when, why, and what each part of the marble work means. After the Taj Mahal, you move to Agra Fort, built by Emperor Akbar in 1565, where another guide-led tour covers the architecture and the centuries of power that happened within those walls. No ticket lines here either.

Lunch happens at one of five restaurants — Molecule, Two Saints, Cairo, Bon Barbeque, Double Tree by Hilton, or Courtyard by Marriott — and you choose which one appeals to you. After that, if you want a fourth stop, the guide can take you to the Tomb of Itimad-Ud-Daulah, sometimes called the Baby Taj, or you can skip it and head back to Delhi. The return drive is the same three hours, and you're dropped at your original pickup point or wherever else you'd prefer in the city.

The whole day is twelve hours or so from pickup to drop-off. Water bottles are included throughout, as are all tolls, parking, fuel, and the monument entry fees. If you've chosen the meal option, that's covered too. Dietary needs — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free — can be arranged if you mention them when you book.
