The experience

Your driver picks you up from your Delhi hotel or airport and you travel three hours south on the Yamuna Expressway in a private air-conditioned car. The route is modern and direct: no detours through city traffic. When you arrive in Agra, your guide meets you and takes you straight to the Taj Mahal. Because skip-the-line access is arranged, you walk past the queue at the gate and spend two to three hours inside, moving through the grounds and the mausoleum itself while your guide explains the architecture, the inlay work, and the story of Shahjahan and Mumtaz Mahal. The guide points out the best angles for photographs and the details most visitors miss.

After the Taj Mahal, you break for lunch at a local restaurant in Agra, where you can order Mughlai dishes: biryani, kebab, tandoori chicken, or a vegetarian option if you requested it at booking. Then you move on to Agra Fort, built by Emperor Akbar in 1565. The fort is a compound of palaces, mosques, and courtyards. Your guide walks you through the Moti Masjid, the Khas Mahal, the Sheesh Mahal, and the Musanman Burj, the tower where Shahjahan was held prisoner by his own son and where he died. From that tower, the imprisoned emperor could see the Taj Mahal across the river.
