The Experience

How do you even describe seeing the Taj Mahal at sunrise? I’m not really a morning person, so when our driver showed up at 3:00 AM in Delhi, I was questioning my life choices. The Taj Mahal itself… well, everyone’s seen photos, but standing there as the sun actually rises is different. The marble goes from cold blue to this gentle gold, almost shy. Raj pointed out some tiny carvings I’d never have noticed — apparently each flower has its own meaning. He told us Shah Jahan built it for his wife Mumtaz, which I knew, but hearing it while actually staring at her tomb made me weirdly emotional.
