The experience
Hotel pickup starts the day, then you head to the Citadel of Cairo, built by Saladin in the 12th century and expanded over time into a complex of mosques and museums. The Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali Pasha is the main draw (a white limestone structure that dominates the Cairo skyline), but your guide can steer you toward the police or military museums if those interest you more. The Citadel sits high enough to give you views across the city while you're there.
From the Citadel, you move to the Egyptian Museum, which holds one of the world's largest collections of Egyptian art spanning 5,000 years. You'll see pieces from the pre-historic era through the Greco-Roman period, all in one building. Three hours lets you move through the main galleries without rushing, though the scale of what's here means you'll be choosing what to linger on.
The final stop is Cairo's Old Coptic Quarter, where the Hanging Church (El Muallaqa) sits above the southern gate of a Roman fortress. Built with a wooden roof shaped like Noah's Ark, it's one of Cairo's oldest churches. Nearby stands Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church, built on a site believed to have sheltered the Holy Family during their flight into Egypt. Both reflect centuries of Coptic heritage and architectural detail you won't find elsewhere in the city. The tour wraps with hotel drop-off.

Is this one for you?Choose the guided option if you want context on what you're seeing (the Citadel's history, the museum's chronology, the churches' significance), since the sites span thousands of years and a guide's tailoring makes the day cohere. Skip the guide if you prefer to move at your own pace and explore what draws you without narration.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German and Italian.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 10 years); Infant (under 3).
What is the Hanging Church and why is it called that?
The Hanging Church (El Muallaqa) is one of Cairo's oldest Christian monuments, built above the southern gate of a Roman fortress in the Coptic Quarter. It gets its name from its suspended position over the fortress wall, and it's known for its wooden roof shaped like Noah's Ark and its centuries of Coptic heritage.
How much time do I spend at each stop?
The Citadel takes about three hours, and the Egyptian Museum also takes about three hours. The Coptic Quarter churches are visited as the final stop before hotel drop-off, with time to see both the Hanging Church and Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church.
Can I choose which museums to visit at the Citadel?
Yes. Your Egyptologist guide can tailor the Citadel visit to your interests. You might focus on the Alabaster Mosque, or choose to visit the police museum or military museum instead, depending on what appeals to you.
Is lunch included, and can I skip it?
Lunch is optional and added at checkout. You can book the tour with a driver and guide only, or add lunch to your booking if you'd like a meal included in the day.
Do I need a guide, or can I explore on my own?
A guide is optional. You can book a private car and driver to move between the sites, or add a live guide in English, Spanish, Italian, French or another language to provide context and tailor the stops to your interests.
