The Experience

The day starts at your hotel with pickup in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Your Egyptologist guide meets you there and stays with you for the full 7 to 8 hours. First stop is the Egyptian Museum, where you walk through over 250,000 genuine artifacts spanning 5,000 years. The Tutankhamen collection—gold, jewelry and treasures sealed in his tomb for 3,500 years before excavation in the 1920s—occupies its own exhibit. This is the largest collection of Egyptian antiquities in the world, and the guide contextualizes what you are standing in front of instead of you reading plaques alone.

From there you move to Old Cairo, the stronghold of Coptic Christianity in Egypt. You visit the Hanging Church, the Holy Cave at Abu Sergha Church (where tradition holds the Holy Family sheltered during their journey to Cairo), Saint George Church and the Ben Ezra synagogue.
