The Experience
Your guide meets you at the hotel lobby at 9:00 am and drives you to the Egyptian Museum, where the collection spans temples, tombs and the gold treasures of King Tutankhamun alongside mummified remains. The museum holds the physical record of what ancient Egypt built and buried—the objects themselves, not a retelling of them. From there you head to Old Cairo, a district where churches built in the 4th and 5th centuries still stand: the cavern church of Saint Sergious and Saint Bakhus, the hanging church of the Virgin Mary, and Saint George church, all within sight of the Roman fort that marks where the holy family is said to have sheltered during their time in Egypt. Lunch at a local restaurant breaks the day before the final stop.
Khan el-Khalili is where the afternoon unfolds—a market founded in the 14th century under the Mamluk Sultan Barqouq, its narrow streets still lined with stalls and shops. You walk the old passages, see the remains of the Cairo wall and the Fatimid fort embedded in the quarter's layout, and have time to browse or buy if you choose. The guide returns you to your hotel as the day ends.

What exactly is inside the Egyptian Museum that makes it worth the visit?
The Egyptian Museum holds masterpieces from ancient temples and tombs—sculptures, hieroglyphic records, and the complete gold collection of King Tutankhamun, including his mummified remains and burial treasures. It is the largest single collection of pharaonic artifacts in the world.
Are the Coptic churches in Old Cairo still active places of worship, or are they museums?
Old Cairo's churches—the hanging church of the Virgin Mary, the cavern church of Saint Sergious and Saint Bakhus, and Saint George church—are active Coptic Orthodox sites, not museums. They remain places of worship and pilgrimage, built on or near the Roman fort where early Christians sheltered.
What is Khan el-Khalili and why is it included in a Cairo tour?
Khan el-Khalili is the largest and oldest bazaar in the Middle East, founded in the 14th century. It is a working marketplace where you walk the medieval street layout, see the remains of the old Cairo wall and Fatimid fortifications, and can shop for crafts, spices and souvenirs if you wish.
How much time do I actually spend at each stop, or does the guide decide the pace?
The tour runs five to six hours total and moves through three major stops—the museum, Old Cairo churches, and Khan el-Khalili—with a lunch break in between. Your Egyptologist guide sets the pace and timing at each site based on the group's interest and the day's flow.
Is lunch included, and will it accommodate dietary restrictions?
Yes, lunch at a local Egyptian restaurant is included in the tour. Dietary needs should be mentioned when you book so the operator can arrange an appropriate meal at the restaurant.
Do I need to be in good physical shape for this tour, or is it mostly walking at a comfortable pace?
The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels and is wheelchair accessible. The main activities are walking through the museum, churches and bazaar at a leisurely pace. It is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries due to the amount of standing and walking involved.
