The experience

The tour starts with pickup from your downtown Niagara Falls hotel or location, and your guide begins narrating the history and geology of the falls as you drive through Niagara Falls State Park: the oldest state park in the United States. You'll stop at the American Observation Tower first, where the panoramic views frame the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls plunging into the gorge below. From there, you board the Maid of the Mist, the legendary boat that carries you to the base of the falls themselves. You'll sail past the American Falls and toward the Horseshoe Falls while the mist and roar surround you.

After the boat ride, the tour moves to Goat Island, where you walk scenic pathways between the American Falls and Horseshoe Falls, then pass Luna Island and Terrapin Point: some of the closest viewpoints on the American side. The Cave of the Winds comes next: you descend approximately 175 feet into the Niagara Gorge on wooden platforms that lead to the Hurricane Deck, where you stand just feet from the rushing waters of Bridal Veil Falls. The skip-the-line entry means you move straight through without waiting at the ticket window. A narrated drive along the Niagara Gorge follows, where you see the river flowing through cliffs carved over thousands of years.

The helicopter ride is the final leg. You take to the air and see the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Horseshoe Falls, and the Niagara River from above. The whole experience runs about five hours, and your guide answers questions throughout. Note that children under 40 inches tall cannot ride the helicopter, and the Maid of the Mist is seasonal, operating May through October only.
