The Experience

The falls light up at night in colors that shift so fast you almost miss them — electric blue to deep purple to white — and that's when you realize you're standing on Goat Island watching water the size of a small mountain turn into a light show. But that's day two evening. Day one starts at 7 a.m. pickup in Manhattan (Times Square LOFT Entrance or another NYC location you arrange with the operator), then heads south about 100 miles to Philadelphia and Independence National Historical Park, the square mile where the Declaration of Independence was signed. You walk past the clock tower and bronze founding-father statues, then drive another 140 miles to Washington, D.C., where the day splits into optional stops: the U.S. Capitol and National Archives (two hours, if you want to see the Constitution and Bill of Rights in person), the White House from the outside (30 minutes for photos), and the Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam Veterans Memorial to close out the evening. Two nights in a hotel near Gaithersburg or Rockville give you a place to sleep between the driving.

Day two is the long haul north — about 275 miles — and the operator builds in two optional stops along the way. The Corning Museum of Glass is 90 minutes of glassmaking demonstrations and 100,000 pieces of colored and crystal work, the kind of thing that turns a rest stop into something you actually remember. If you're traveling between May and October, Watkins Glen State Park in the Finger Lakes region adds another 90 minutes of gorge trails and waterfalls carved by glaciers. Then you arrive at Niagara Falls in time for the night tour, when the three falls (Horseshoe, Bridal Veil, American) glow under colored lights and you walk Goat Island and Luna Island to catch them from different angles. If there's a fireworks show that night, the tour times it so you're there.

Day three is yours to shape. The optional Classic Tour runs 2.5 hours and takes you to Whirlpool Park (a 125-foot-deep natural whirlpool where the river churns back on itself), the Cave of the Winds (an elevator drops you into the gorge to walkways at the foot of the falls where you feel the spray), and either the Maid of the Mist boat ride if it's summer, or Old Fort Niagara State Park if the boat is closed for the season. After that, it's the drive back to New York — about 400 miles, so you're back by evening. The whole three-day tour includes round-trip transport in a comfortable vehicle, two hotel nights, and driver-guide expertise; you pay cash on the day for any attraction tickets the operator doesn't pre-book, and you need to confirm your pickup location at least three days before departure or the default is 7 a.m. Times Square.

What’s included

  • Your three days include round-trip transport in a comfortable, professionally maintained vehicle from New York, two nights of hotel accommodation (Springhill Suites Gaithersburg, Comfort Inn Shady Grove, Crowne Plaza Niagara, or similar), expert drivers and guides for the full journey, and the mandatory Niagara Falls Night Tour on day two.
  • Optional add-ons are the U.S.
  • Capitol and National Archives tour (120 minutes, day one), Corning Museum of Glass (90 minutes, day two), Watkins Glen State Park and Finger Lakes gorge trails (90 minutes, day two, seasonal May–October), and the Niagara Falls Classic Tour with Whirlpool Park, Cave of the Winds, and either Maid of the Mist or Old Fort Niagara (2.5 hours, day three).
  • Attraction tickets are purchased during booking or from your guide on the day; gratuities for driver and guide are included if you select the "All Inclusive" option.
  • Fuel surcharge is included.
  • You are responsible for cash for any incidental purchases and must bring comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, sun protection, and a valid phone number for tour communication.

Top questions

How long is the drive from New York to Philadelphia?

Approximately 100 miles, usually 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic.

Is the U.S. Capitol tour included?

It's optional. If you choose it, the 2-hour tour includes the Capitol interior, National Archives (Declaration, Constitution, Bill of Rights), and outside views of the Supreme Court and Library of Congress. If the Capitol cannot be entered that day, it's replaced with an alternative Washington D.C. tour covering the Air Force Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, and World War II Memorial.

What's the Niagara Falls Night Tour?

A 90-minute evening tour where the three falls are illuminated in shifting colored lights. You walk Goat Island and Luna Island for multi-angle views. If a fireworks show is scheduled that night, the tour is timed so you see it.

Is the Maid of the Mist boat ride included?

It's part of the optional Classic Tour on day three (2.5 hours). The boat runs in summer; in cooler months it's replaced with Old Fort Niagara State Park.

Can I skip the Corning Museum of Glass?

Yes, it's optional. The 90-minute stop is on the drive north on day two; you can skip it and arrive at Niagara Falls earlier.

What happens if Watkins Glen is closed?

Watkins Glen State Park is seasonal, usually open May to October. If it's closed, that 90-minute stop is not available. Check the park's official website for exact opening dates.

Do I need to bring cash?

Yes. Attraction tickets and some shops require cash. Prepare sufficient cash in advance; the operator does not accept third-party passes or city passes.

What's included in the price?

Round-trip transport from New York, 2 hotel nights, professional drivers and guides, fuel surcharge, and gratuities (if you select the "All Inclusive" option). Attraction admission tickets are purchased during booking or from your guide on the day of the tour.

When do I need to confirm my pickup location?

Contact the operator at least 3 days before departure. If you don't confirm, the default pickup is 7:00 a.m. at Times Square LOFT Entrance (1459 Broadway, New York, NY 10036).

Are children allowed?

Yes. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 8 may need a booster seat by law; contact the operator in advance if needed. Infants can ride in a pram or stroller, or sit on an adult's lap.
