Stand at the base of three waterfalls and ride above them all in one afternoon

A small-group day trip from Buffalo to Niagara Falls covers both the U.S. and Canadian sides in five hours, with an expert guide, hotel pickup, and admission to Cave of the Winds, a boat tour, and Skylon Tower included. You descend into the gorge to walk the platforms at Cave of the Winds near Bridal Veil Falls, cross into Canada to stand at Table Rock Centre inches from Horseshoe Falls, board a boat into the mist below the cascade, and ride a glass elevator 775 feet up Skylon Tower for a panorama across all three falls.

The experience

You're picked up from your Buffalo-area hotel and driven to the gorge, where the tour's first stop puts you on wooden platforms at Cave of the Winds. Admission is included. You walk down into the Niagara Gorge and stand steps from Bridal Veil Falls, close enough to feel the roar and mist. The American Falls come next: a dramatic wall of water on the U.S. side with easy access to overlooks on Goat Island. Then the tour crosses into Canada and Table Rock Centre, positioned directly beside Horseshoe Falls. This is the closest land-based view of the falls' most powerful cascade, where the water drops 167 feet in front of you.

The boat experience depends on the season. From mid-April through October, you board either the Maid of the Mist (U.S. side) or Niagara City Cruises (Canadian side) and sail into the swirling mist below Horseshoe Falls, admission included. In winter, when the boats close, Journey Behind the Falls replaces it, letting you explore the falls up close through tunnels carved into the rock behind the cascade. Either way, the included admission gets you into the heart of the falls. After the boat, you ride the glass elevator at Skylon Tower to the observation decks 775 feet above, where you see all three waterfalls and the surrounding gorge spread out below. The drive back to Buffalo closes the five-hour loop.

The guide is live and speaks English throughout. The group stays small, a maximum of 13 travelers, and you travel in a comfortable, professionally maintained vehicle. Bottled water and a granola bar are provided. You'll want to bring cash for any extras or shops along the way, and comfortable shoes for the walking at each stop. A valid passport or permanent resident ID is required to cross into Canada.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 12 years); Infant (under 3).

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What exactly do you do at Cave of the Winds?

Cave of the Winds puts you on wooden platforms in the Niagara Gorge, steps away from Bridal Veil Falls. You walk down into the gorge with admission included and stand close enough to feel the mist and roar of the waterfall. An up-close encounter no overlook provides. From mid-May through early November, you also visit the Hurricane Deck and World Changed Here Pavilion. Outside those months, the Cave Gorge Trip and World Changed Here Pavilion replace it.

Is the boat tour always part of the itinerary?

The boat tour runs from mid-April through late October, weather permitting. You board either the Maid of the Mist on the U.S. side or Niagara City Cruises on the Canadian side, with admission included. During winter months when the boats close, Journey Behind the Falls, also with admission included, replaces the boat experience, letting you explore tunnels carved behind the cascade.

What does Skylon Tower add to the tour?

Skylon Tower sits on the Canadian side and offers a glass elevator ride 775 feet up to observation decks with unobstructed views across all three waterfalls and the surrounding gorge. Admission is included. It's the only vantage point in the tour where you see the falls from above rather than at their base or from the side.

Do I need a passport to cross into Canada?

Yes. You must bring a valid U.S. or Canadian passport. If you hold a U.S. or Canadian permanent resident ID, bring both your passport and the permanent resident ID. If you hold neither, you'll need to arrange a travel visa in advance through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

How much time do you spend at each major stop?

The five-hour tour includes travel time between locations, so the visit times vary by stop. The itinerary is designed to hit the main highlights (Cave of the Winds, the American Falls, Table Rock Centre, the boat ride or Journey Behind the Falls, and Skylon Tower) within that window. Your guide will manage the pacing to fit everything in.
