The experience
Niagara Falls from Buffalo means a drive to the gorge, then straight into the action. You descend into the Niagara Gorge and walk the wooden platforms of Cave of the Winds, where you stand steps from Bridal Veil Falls and feel the mist and roar of the water up close. This is the kind of access no overlook gives you. From there you move to American Falls on the US side, where Goat Island offers easy lookouts over the rocky edge, then cross the Rainbow Bridge into Canada.
On the Canadian side, Table Rock Centre puts you directly beside Horseshoe Falls, the largest of the three, where the water drops 167 feet in front of you. Then comes the boat ride: either Maid of the Mist (US side, mid-April through late October) or Niagara City Cruises (Canadian side, same season). When the river freezes and the boats stop running, Journey Behind the Falls replaces the boat experience, letting you walk through tunnels carved into the rock behind the cascade. After the water, you ride the glass elevator up Skylon Tower for a panoramic view across all three falls and the surrounding gorge from above.
Your guide drives the route and handles the logistics. The tour includes bottled water and a granola bar. Hotel pickup is available from Buffalo, Grand Island, and Niagara Falls, NY. The five-hour day covers travel time between stops, so you're not rushing through each one. Bring comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, sunscreen, and cash: certain attractions and shops on the day require it. You'll need a valid US or Canadian passport to cross into Canada. If you hold a permanent resident ID, bring that too.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 12 years); Infant (under 3): free.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24h before the start.
What's the difference between Maid of the Mist and Journey Behind the Falls?
Maid of the Mist is a boat ride that sails into the mist below Horseshoe Falls and runs mid-April through late October. Journey Behind the Falls is a walking tour through tunnels carved into the rock behind the cascade, included during winter months when the river freezes and the boats close. Both are included in the tour price. Which one you experience depends on the season you travel.
Do I need a passport to do this tour?
Yes. The tour crosses the Rainbow Bridge into Canada, so you must bring a valid US or Canadian passport. If you hold a permanent resident ID, bring that along with your passport. If you hold neither, you'll need to arrange the appropriate travel visa in advance through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
What is Cave of the Winds and what will I actually do there?
Cave of the Winds is a descent into the Niagara Gorge where you walk onto wooden platforms positioned steps away from Bridal Veil Falls. You feel the mist and hear the roar of the water up close. Admission is included. The experience operates mid-May through early November. Outside those months, the tour substitutes a different gorge-level stop.
How much time do I spend at each major stop?
The tour is five hours total, including travel between locations and time at each stop. The itinerary moves you through Cave of the Winds, American Falls, Table Rock Centre, the boat ride or Journey Behind the Falls, and Skylon Tower, but the exact minutes at each site depend on the group pace and traffic on the day.
What's included in the tour price and what do I need to pay for separately?
Included are the guide, hotel pickup, admission to Cave of the Winds, Maid of the Mist or Journey Behind the Falls, Table Rock Centre, and Skylon Tower; bottled water and a granola bar; and comfortable vehicle transport. Meals, gratuities, and any optional attractions not listed in the itinerary are not included. Bring cash for any extras you want to purchase during the day.
