The experience

The tour starts at Prospect Point, where the American Falls drop over jagged rocks into the gorge below. From there you move to the Observation Tower for a full panoramic view of all three waterfalls, then cross onto Goat Island to stand at Terrapin Point. Just feet from the roaring edge of the Horseshoe Falls, where over 600,000 gallons of water plunge every second. Bridal Veil Falls, the smallest of the three, cascades nearby with its delicate mist.

The Gorge Walk happens next, a trek alongside the icy Niagara River through snow-covered cliffs and frozen mist. Before you head out, an 8-minute immersive film at the World Changed Here Pavilion covers the falls' geological formation, Native American history, and the role of scientists like Nikola Tesla in harnessing its power. The walk itself is invigorating in winter, with panoramic views of the frosty rapids.

After the Gorge, you warm up with a hot chocolate, coffee or tea and a muffin at Starbucks: included in the price. The final stop is Whirlpool State Park, where scenic overlooks show the Niagara River's swirling rapids and whirlpool. The tour ends at the Power Vista, an interactive visitor center at the Niagara Power Project where hands-on exhibits explain how hydroelectric power works and offer views down into the Niagara River Gorge.
