So you're standing at Terrapin Point on Goat Island and the Horseshoe Falls is just... there. Your guide meets you near the Nikola Tesla statue in the parking lot and then walks you through what actually matters — the spots where the water hits hardest, where the mist rises thickest, where you can see both the American and Canadian sides without crossing the border. Luna Island comes next, the narrow strip between the American and Bridal Veil Falls, and the whole thing takes on a different angle from there. The Observation Tower extends out over the gorge with glass walls on all sides, so you're basically floating above the Niagara River looking down at all three falls at once.

Then comes the choice that splits the day. Most people do the Maid of the Mist boat ride — you descend to the base of the falls in a yellow rain poncho, and the spray hits you hard enough that you understand why they hand out ponchos. The boat operates May through October, so call ahead to confirm it's running the day you go. If the water's too high or the weather's rough, your guide brings you to Cave of the Winds instead, which is its own thing entirely. You descend into the gorge on a series of walkways and end up on the "hurricane deck," where even on a calm day the spray and roar make it feel like you're standing inside a storm. Both are included in the tour price — you don't pay extra for either one.

The whole walk is small-group only, capped at ten people, which means you're not shuffling through crowds or waiting for someone's phone to charge. Your guide points out the Tesla statue (the man who figured out how to harness the falls' power for electricity), talks through the history of the islands, and stops whenever someone wants a photo. It's not rushed. The walking itself is moderate — you're on accessible paths and platforms, mostly on Goat Island and Luna Island, so it's not a hike.
