Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Niagara Falls attractions
- Take Maid of the Mist boat tour
- Visit Cave of the Winds
- See views from Observation Tower
- Explore Three Sisters Island
- View American, Horseshoe and Bridal Veil Falls
The experience
The Maid of the Mist boat departs from Prospect Street and takes you out onto the water where the falls tower overhead and the current pulls the boat closer than any viewing platform can reach. The spray hits hard enough that the boat provides rain ponchos. Most travelers wear them. After the boat returns to the dock, the guide leads you to Cave of the Winds, where a boardwalk descends into the rock beside the Bridal Veil Falls and the mist intensifies as you walk deeper. This is where the tour separates itself from a self-guided visit: the guide explains what you're standing in front of and keeps the group moving through the sequence that makes sense.
Between the major stops, a trolley carries you through Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest state park in the country. You'll pass the American, Horseshoe and Bridal Veil Falls from different angles, and the trolley stops at the Observation Tower and Three Sisters Island so you can step out and photograph the falls from vantage points most casual visitors miss. The trolley ride breaks up the walking and gives your legs a rest while you take in the scale of the place. The whole tour runs four hours, which is long enough to see the main attractions without the day becoming a marathon.
Children from age five are welcome, and the tour is wheelchair accessible throughout. All surfaces are accessible and prams or strollers work on the routes. The guide speaks English and stays with the group the entire time, so you're not navigating the park alone or trying to time your own boat departure. All entry fees and taxes are built into the price. You pay nothing extra at the gates.

Is this one for you?The tour starts at Prospect Street downtown, where public transit reaches easily, so you don't need a rental car or a second booking to get there. The guide moves the group through each stop in the right order and handles the timing, which matters because the boat and the cave have their own schedules and the trolley runs on a loop: trying to coordinate all three on your own takes longer and costs more.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (5 to 12 years). Children under 5 can't be included in the booking.
What is Cave of the Winds and why do people go there?
Cave of the Winds is a boardwalk carved into the rock beside Bridal Veil Falls, one of the three waterfalls at Niagara. You walk down into the spray and stand directly beside the falling water, close enough to feel the mist on your face and hear the roar of the current. It's a different experience from viewing the falls from above or from a distance.
Does the Maid of the Mist boat get close enough to feel the water?
Yes. The boat travels directly toward the base of the falls, and the spray is heavy enough that the operator provides rain ponchos to every passenger. Most people wear them because the water reaches the deck.
How much walking is involved in this tour?
The tour includes walking to and through Cave of the Winds and between the trolley stops, but the trolley carries you between the major attractions so you're not walking the entire four hours. The Observation Tower and Three Sisters Island require short walks to reach them.
Can I do this tour if I'm traveling without a car?
Yes. The tour departs from Maid of the Mist at Prospect Street in Niagara Falls, and public transportation options are available nearby to reach the starting point. The guide handles all the logistics between stops, so you don't need to arrange separate transport during the tour.
What should I bring or wear?
Wear clothes you don't mind getting wet, especially for the Maid of the Mist boat and Cave of the Winds. The operator provides ponchos on the boat, but water still reaches your legs and feet. Bring a camera in a waterproof case or bag if you want to photograph the falls without worrying about spray damage.
