The experience
The day starts with hotel pickup and a transfer to Tung Yee Peng Pier on Koh Lanta's east coast, where you meet your guide and check in around 9:30am. From there you paddle into the mangrove forest: a protected area where the waterway narrows into small canals threading between the trees. The guide navigates you toward nearby islands, and monkeys and lizards appear in the branches as you move through the channels.
The kayaking takes you to Koh Aung first, then across to Talabeng Island, where you paddle directly into a sea cave. Inside, fresh water pools sit beneath stalagmites and stalactites that catch the light. After the cave, you paddle to Koh Bubu for lunch on the beach and a swim in the lagoon. The water here is clear and the color shifts from emerald to turquoise depending on the light. You have time to rest on the sand before the return paddle begins around 3:30pm, when the guide takes you back to the pier and the transfer returns you to your hotel.
The route changes if weather or sea conditions demand it, so the guide makes the call on the day. You paddle at your own pace. The guide sets the rhythm and stays with the group. Life jackets, kayaks and all paddling gear are provided, along with drinking water, fresh fruit and snacks throughout the day.
