The experience
The tour starts with a six- to seven-hour drive from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park, where you begin a game drive the same afternoon and then visit a nearby Maasai village to see how the community lives. You stay overnight at Camp Bastian. The next morning, another six- to seven-hour drive takes you south to Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), where you check in at Selous Safari Lodge and head straight out for a sunset boat safari on the Rufiji River: a chance to watch hippos, crocodiles, birds, and elephants from the water as the light fades.
Day three is a full-day game drive through Nyerere's woodland and riverine habitats, with a packed lunch in the park. You'll move through landscapes where lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and a wide range of birds live across the vast reserve. The final morning begins with a walking safari led by a bushman guide, giving you a close look at animal tracks, plants, and the ecosystem on foot before the drive back to Dar es Salaam and drop-off at your hotel or airport.
Bottled water and refreshments travel with you throughout. WiFi is available on board. The itinerary balances vehicle-based wildlife viewing with water-based observation and foot-level exploration, so you encounter the parks from different vantage points across the four days.
