The experience

The route starts with hotel pickup in Dar es Salaam, then a scenic train journey to Morogoro before a road transfer into Mikumi. After lunch at Camp Bastian on day one, you visit a Maasai boma to rest and orient yourself. Days two and three are devoted entirely to game drives across the park's 3,230 square kilometers of open plains, where you'll watch for elephants, lions, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, leopards, pythons and crocodiles moving between the Uluguru Mountains to the north and the Lumango Mountains to the southeast.

All three nights you stay at Camp Bastian, with breakfast, lunch and dinner included each day. The guide speaks English, Spanish or French depending on your preference. On day four, the train carries you back to Morogoro, then a final transfer takes you to Dar es Salaam airport, your hotel, or the ferry terminal for Zanzibar: your choice where the journey ends.
