The experience

Your driver picks you up from your Dar es Salaam hotel, airport or ferry terminal and drives five hours to Mikumi National Park, passing through sisal plantations and along the Uluguru Mountain range. A lunch stop in Morogoro breaks the journey. You arrive in the afternoon for your first game drive until sunset, then settle into your accommodation inside or outside the park.

Day two is a full day in the park. After breakfast you head out with packed lunch boxes for continuous game viewing across the Mkata Floodplain, where lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest, eland and wild dog packs move through open horizons. The park holds over 300 bird species. You return to camp for dinner.

On the final morning, an early game drive lasts about two and a half hours, timed to catch sunrise. After breakfast you drive back to Dar es Salaam with a lunch stop on the way, arriving at your hotel, airport or ferry terminal by afternoon. The vehicle is a 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser with window seating guaranteed and an open pop-up roof for unobstructed wildlife viewing and photography.
