The experience

The tour starts with a morning pickup from your Dar es Salaam hotel and a 5–6 hour drive south through Morogoro, where you stop for lunch before arriving at Mikumi in the afternoon. You'll go straight into a game drive that same evening, when the park's herds are most active. Buffalo, elephants, Masai giraffes, lions, wildebeests and impalas move across the open grassland year-round. Hippos and crocodiles stay near the water. You'll stay at Bastian Camp, a mid-range lodge inside the park.

The second day begins with breakfast at the lodge, then a packed lunch and another game drive as you make your way back toward Dar es Salaam. The return route itself becomes a final stretch of wildlife watching before you leave the park. You'll arrive back at your hotel in the city by evening. The guide speaks English and leads both days of driving and watching. Park fees, all three meals and the lodge night are included.
