The experience

The first day moves you from Dar es Salaam to Africa Safari Camp in the reserve, where you start with a village walking tour to see how people live and work near the park. In the afternoon and into evening, you board a boat on the Rufiji River (Tanzania's longest river at roughly 370 miles) to spot crocodiles, hippos, river cliffs and birds as the light fades.

Day two is a full game drive from 7:30 AM until evening, broken by a packed lunch and rest in the afternoon. The reserve holds elephants, zebras, giraffes, antelope and a range of birds across varied terrain: wetlands, dry grassland, acacia forest and higher ground with views toward distant mountains. You return to camp for dinner.

On the final morning, a bushman guide and armed ranger lead a forest walking tour lasting roughly two to three hours before breakfast. After the walk, your driver picks you up and returns you to Dar es Salaam.
