The experience

You start with hotel pickup in Dar es Salaam and drive 300km inland toward Mikumi, stopping for breaks along the way. Once you reach the park gate (timing depends on traffic), you'll head straight into a half-day or evening game drive to begin spotting wildlife. Overnight accommodation is at one of three lodges: Tan-Swiss Hotel, Camp Bastian, or Mikumi Bandas, depending on availability and your arrival time.

Day two is a full game drive from early morning through afternoon. You'll keep watch for elephants, lions, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, antelopes, gazelles, leopards, zebras and more than 500 bird species across the park's open plains and woodland. A hot lunch break happens around midday inside the park, so you stay in the field without returning to base. Your guide-driver handles all the driving and commentary, trained in both safety and animal behavior.

On the final morning, you'll have an early or packed breakfast before the drive back to Dar es Salaam, with short stops for stretching. The driver will drop you at your hotel, ferry port or airport to end the tour. Private transportation means your group travels together the whole way, and all park fees, taxes and accommodation are included in the price.
