The experience

The route starts with pickup from Dar es Salaam airport, hotel or ferry, then moves to the SGR Station for the electric train to Morogoro: roughly an hour's journey. Once you arrive, your driver-guide takes over for the drive into Mikumi National Park, where you'll do a late-morning to afternoon game drive before lunch and another drive until evening. You stay at Camp Bastian Mikumi, a mid-range lodge just outside the park boundary.

Day two is the full game drive: after breakfast, you spend the morning and afternoon watching the park's large plain for lions, elephants, buffaloes, impalas, zebras and other wildlife. Lunch happens at a picnic campsite inside the park. In the late afternoon, around 4pm, you leave the park for a cultural visit to a nearby Masai village, staying until evening before returning to Camp Bastian for dinner. The third morning brings an early breakfast, then your driver takes you back to Morogoro SGR Station for the train to Dar es Salaam, where you're dropped at the airport, hotel or ferry for onward travel.
