The Experience

Your guide picks you up from your hotel or port and drives you through San Juan's 500-year-old historic district, pointing out the fortifications and the significance of Castillo San Felipe del Morro. You'll stop to walk around the fort's exterior and photograph it (though entry to the fort itself is separate) before moving on to the Capitol District, where you'll learn about Puerto Rico's three ethnic roots and see the Presidential Monuments and Holocaust Memorial.

The route then heads to Piñones, where you'll taste authentic local food (at your own cost) and see the beaches of Pozita de Piñones and Vacia Talega as you drive past. Your guide shares the island's Afro-Caribbean heritage and folklore throughout. From there you move into El Yunque National Forest for an easy walk through Parque Historico Cueva Maria de la Cruz before reaching the Yokahú Observation Tower, which sits 1,476 feet above sea level. On a clear day the view stretches ten miles or more, taking in four forest types (Colorado, Tabonuco, Palm and Cloud Forest), and the coastline all the way to the Virgin Islands. La Coca Waterfall, where water drops 85 feet onto rock below, is the final stop and a strong spot for photos.

The tour runs six to seven hours total. Pickups begin 30 minutes before departure, so plan to be ready at that window. The guide speaks English or Spanish depending on the group. Children ride free with an adult, and infant seats and booster seats are available if you request them when booking.
