The experience

The day starts with a ferry from Amalfi (8:55 am) or Positano (9:15 am). A 40 to 50 minute crossing to Marina Grande, Capri's main port, where your guide meets you. If weather and tides allow, you'll board a boat into the Blue Grotto, the sea cave where sunlight turns the water an intense blue. If conditions close it, you'll take a shared boat tour around the island instead. Either way, the entry is included.

From Capri you catch the ferry to Sorrento, a clifftop city built on the scent of lemons. You have leisure time to walk the main shopping streets or stand at the edge and look out over the Bay of Naples. A driver then picks you up for the drive to Pompeii, where the tour's final hours unfold among the forum, villas and shops of the Roman empire: all preserved under lava and ash from thousands of years ago. The scale and detail of what survives there tends to leave people quiet.

A driver returns you to Amalfi or Positano by the end of the afternoon. The guide speaks English, Spanish, French or German. Ferries, both entry tickets, the boat ride in Capri, and all ground transport are arranged. You bring only yourself and comfortable walking shoes.

Is this one for you?The private van and guide mean you move as one group through four transport legs and three major sites without managing tickets or ferries yourself, which suits anyone staying in Positano or Amalfi who wants to see all three in a single day without the logistics. Shared boat rides in Capri keep the cost down while the private ground transport and guide keep the day coherent.
