A 2-day overnight camping tour on Mount Batur volcano starting from Toya Bungkah Village. You hike about 2 hours in the afternoon to reach 1500 meters, set up camp, then climb the final stretch to the 1717-meter peak to watch the sunset. After dinner at the campground, you wake before dawn to see the sunrise from the summit, explore the main craters and black lava flows, then descend. The operator provides tents, meals, hot drinks and hotel pickup.

The experience

The tour starts at 3 pm from Toya Bungkah Village with a 2-hour hike up Mount Batur. You'll reach the camping ground at 1500 meters above sea level, where the team sets up your tent. From there, a short 14- to 20-minute walk takes you to the 1717-meter peak in time for sunset. While you watch the sun drop, you're served a simple meal, often banana cooked in volcanic steam, with hot Bali coffee or tea.

After sunset, you return to the campground for dinner and settle in for the night. On clear nights you can see stars across the sky. On full moon nights the landscape itself lights up. Early the next morning, you wake to climb back to the peak and watch the sunrise from above the clouds. On a clear day, Mount Rinjani on Lombok Island is visible from the summit. The hike then continues through the main craters of the volcano, past the recent black lava flow, and down sandy paths back to the base.

Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, along with the tent, all meals (dinner and breakfast), bottled water, and hot drinks. Lunch is not provided, so bring money or pack your own. The minimum age is 12 years old.
