You're picked up before dawn from your Ubud hotel, climb Mount Batur by flashlight through the dark, reach the summit in time to watch the sunrise over Lake Batur and the lava fields below, and eat breakfast on the mountaintop. On the way back, you stop at a traditional coffee plantation. The whole day, including guide, breakfast, and drinks, takes 8–10 hours and ends with a hotel drop-off.
The pickup happens early. Your driver arrives at your Ubud or Kuta hotel while most of the island is still asleep, and you're already in an air-conditioned vehicle heading toward Mount Batur's base. The road winds through Kintamani's quiet landscape—you'll catch glimpses of it on the way, but the real focus is ahead. By the time you step out of the car, a local guide is waiting with flashlights. The climb starts in darkness, and that's the point. You're hiking up an active volcano by moonlight, using the beam of your torch to pick out the path, and the whole thing feels less like a tourist activity and more like something you're actually doing.
The trek takes a couple of hours depending on your pace and where your hotel was. Your guide sets the rhythm—they know this mountain, know where the loose rock is, know how to pace a group so nobody burns out before the summit. You're moving upward the whole time, and yeah, it's work, but the guide handles the navigation and the encouragement. Around the time the sky starts to shift from black to deep blue, you reach the highest viewpoint. And then you stop and wait. The sun comes up over Bali, and from where you're standing, you can see Lake Batur spread out below, the lava fields catching the first light, and the whole landscape opening up in front of you. Breakfast happens right there on the mountaintop—tea, coffee, and something warm to eat while you're still catching your breath and watching the island wake up.
On the way back down, the tour includes a stop at a traditional Balinese coffee plantation. It's a real break from the hike—you're off your feet, there's shade, and you get to taste the coffee or tea they grow there before heading back to your hotel. The whole thing, from pickup to drop-off, runs 8 to 10 hours depending on where you started. Your guide speaks English, handles all the logistics, and you don't have to figure out transport, timing, or how to find the trailhead yourself.
Your day includes early-morning hotel pickup from Ubud or Kuta, a guided climb of Mount Batur by flashlight, breakfast and morning tea served on the summit, a stop at a traditional Balinese coffee plantation with coffee or tea tasting, a professional English-speaking guide for the entire trek, and hotel drop-off at the end of the day. All fees and taxes are covered.
