The experience

The day starts with a 4am pickup from your Kolkata hotel. You fly to Delhi on a commercial flight departing around 6am, then drive three hours via the Yamuna Express Highway to Agra, arriving mid-morning with time to see both monuments. A private guide meets you in Agra and takes you first to the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the 17th century by Emperor Shah Jahan as a tomb for his wife, Queen Mumtaz Mahal. You ride a golf cart to and from the monument itself. After the Taj Mahal, you visit Agra Fort, another UNESCO site built by Emperor Akbar in 1565 from red sandstone, where the courtyards, mosques and chambers reflect Hindu and Central Asian architectural styles.

The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or one of two additional languages, and stays with you throughout the Agra portion of the day. Water bottles are provided, and if you choose the lunch option at checkout, a buffet meal is included. If time allows, there is an opportunity for shopping in Agra before you return to Delhi Airport for your evening flight back to Kolkata. You arrive at Kolkata Airport and are dropped at your hotel or another location in the city.

The entire day runs roughly 17 to 18 hours from pickup to drop-off. All transfers happen in an air-conditioned private vehicle, and both commercial flights, entrance fees to both monuments, and the golf cart ride are included in the package. You will need a passport photocopy at the time of booking, and smart casual dress is recommended.
