The experience

The day starts with a 4am pickup from your Kolkata hotel. You're driven to Kolkata Airport for a 6am flight to Delhi, arriving at 8:30am. From there, a three-hour drive on the Yamuna Express Highway takes you to Agra. By midday you're at the Taj Mahal, the 17th-century white marble tomb built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Entry is included, and a golf cart carries you to and from the monument itself. After lunch at a local restaurant, you visit Agra Fort, the red sandstone fortress built by Emperor Akbar in 1565, which shows Hindu and Central Asian architectural styles in its courtyards, mosques and private chambers.

The guide is a professional who speaks your language: English, Spanish, Italian, French or two others. All transfers happen in a private air-conditioned vehicle, and you get water bottles throughout the day.
