The Experience

“You know, the marble changes color with the day,” our guide Ajay said as we shuffled off our shoes at the Taj Mahal’s entrance. He smiled like he’d seen this moment a thousand times—tourists craning their necks, squinting at the way the sun hit the dome. I could smell wet stone and something sweet from a vendor outside. On the drive back, I watched local families picnicking under trees along the Yamuna River, everyone waving or just going about their day. There’s something grounding about seeing all that history and then slipping quietly back into everyday life.
