The experience

The day starts with a 4am pickup from your Chennai hotel and transfer to the airport for a 6:20am flight to Delhi. You arrive at 9:30am and drive three hours by expressway to Agra. The Taj Mahal comes first: the UNESCO-listed white marble tomb built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal in the 17th century. After a lunch break at a restaurant, you visit Agra Fort, another UNESCO site built by Emperor Akbar in 1565 from red sandstone, with courtyards, mosques and private chambers that trace the Mughal Empire's architectural blend of Hindu and Central Asian styles. Shopping time in Agra follows before the drive back to Delhi for your return flight to Chennai, where a driver meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel.
