The experience

The tour starts at 5am with pickup from your Chennai hotel and a flight to Delhi. From Delhi airport, a three-hour drive on the expressway brings you to Agra. That first evening, you visit Mehtab Bagh on the left bank of the Yamuna River, the garden complex where you watch the sunset over the Taj Mahal from across the water: a quieter vantage than the monument itself. You overnight at a 4-star hotel like the Ramada or a 5-star option like the Hilton, both with breakfast included.

Day two starts at 6am. You see the Taj Mahal at sunrise, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World (closed Fridays). After that, the tour moves to Agra Fort, the massive red-sandstone fortress built by Emperor Akbar in 1565, where the courtyards and chambers tell the story of the Mughal Empire. Lunch is included. By early evening, you're back in the private vehicle heading to Delhi airport for the return flight to Chennai, arriving at your hotel or your chosen drop-off point.

What exactly is Mehtab Bagh and why visit it before the Taj Mahal itself?

Mehtab Bagh is a garden complex on the Yamuna's left bank, directly opposite the Taj Mahal, believed to have been designed by Shah Jahan to view the monument on moonlit nights away from crowds. You visit on the evening of day one to watch the sunset over the Taj from across the river, giving you a second perspective before the sunrise visit the next morning.

Do I need a passport to book this tour?

Yes. All members must provide a passport photo copy at the time of booking, since the tour includes round-trip commercial flights from Chennai to Delhi.

What time do I need to be ready for pickup on day one?

Is the Taj Mahal sunrise visit guaranteed?

The sunrise visit is subject to weather conditions, so it is not guaranteed on every departure. The monument is also closed on Fridays, so the tour cannot operate on those days.
