The experience

The speedboat leaves Dubrovnik in the morning and heads straight for the Blue Cave on the south side of Kolocep island. The cave's electric blue color comes from light bouncing off the sand and water below the surface. It's the kind of thing that stops you mid-breath. You'll swim and snorkel here with all the gear provided, then move on to the Green caves if sea conditions allow. If the water is rough, the guide will take you to Kolocep's village center instead, where there's a smaller cave and a sandy beach to explore.

After the caves, the boat heads to Sunj beach on Lopud island, the largest sandy beach in the area. This is where the pace shifts: you have time to dry off, swim in clear water without the snorkel gear, and sit at the bar tucked in the woods with a drink. The whole outing runs four hours, which is why the morning departure at 8:30 a.m. (June through mid-September) matters. It gets you to the caves before other boats arrive.

A professional skipper and guide lead the tour in English. Snorkel equipment, life jackets in adult and child sizes, and drinks are all included. A fuel surcharge applies at the end, paid in cash on the boat: 100 euros for one or two passengers, 120 euros for three to seven, and 150 euros for eight to ten. The tour depends on good weather. If conditions turn, you'll be offered another date or a full refund.
