The Experience
You start with coffee. A guide walks you through how the beans grow in Bijagua's climate, then you move into the hands-on part—grinding and brewing artisanal coffee yourself. The tasting that follows is 100% Costa Rican, and you get to taste what you just prepared. It's not a lecture about coffee; it's the work of making it, which is why the flavor lands differently.
Then you shift to chocolate. The guide shows you the cacao harvest and the steps that turn raw cacao into the chocolate you know, and you make a batch yourself using traditional methods. You taste pure cacao along the way, so you understand what goes into the final product. The whole arc—from tropical plant to something you shaped with your hands—is what stays with you.
The activity runs 90 minutes total and takes place at a working facility in Bijagua. A uniformed guide leads it in either English or Spanish, and children from age 1 are welcome. Public transportation options are nearby if you're not driving yourself. All fitness levels work here; there's no physical restriction to the experience.
