Five temples in one day: Angkor Wat, Bayon's 200 faces, and the jungle-claimed ruins of Ta Prohm

You're picked up from your hotel at 8am and driven through five major temples across the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park: Angkor Wat with its 1,000-meter outer wall, Bayon with its 200 carved faces, the Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King, and Ta Prohm where tree roots overtake the stone. Your guide is English-speaking and the group stays private — just you, family or friends. You pay the park entrance fee separately at the ticket office, and the tour wraps with a return transfer to your hotel.

The Experience

The guide arrives at your hotel at 8am. You climb into a tuk-tuk or minivan depending on group size, and within twenty minutes you're at the ticket office for Angkor Archaeological Park. The entrance fee you pay on the spot — it's not bundled in — then you head straight to Angkor Wat itself. The scale hits you before you've walked fifty meters: the outer wall alone stretches 1,000 by 800 meters, and the moat around it is 200 meters wide. Built between 1113 and 1150 AD and dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, it's the best-preserved temple in the complex, and the longest continuous bas relief in the world runs along the outer gallery walls. You're not rushing through it either — this is a private tour, so the pace is yours.

After Angkor Wat, you move into Angkor Thom, the walled city that once held the king, his court, and thousands of residents. The South Gate introduces you with statues of gods and demons lining the bridge, then you're inside the complex proper. The Bayon sits at the center — a temple mountain with 200 stone faces carved into its towers, all of them smiling in that unsettling, serene way that makes you stare longer than you expect to. From there you walk to the Elephant Terrace, named for the carved elephants that run along its length, and the Terrace of the Leper King with its intricate sculptures. The guide explains the history as you move between them, but there's space to just stand and look.

Ta Prohm is the last stop, and it's the one that stays with you. Massive tree roots have grown through the stone walls and across the roofs — the jungle reclaiming what humans built. The French archaeologists left it this way deliberately, letting nature do what it does. You walk through chambers where roots thicker than your leg twist through doorways and split the walls open. It's not a ruin pretending to be intact; it's a ruin surrendering to the forest. The tour ends with a return transfer to your hotel or wherever you want to be dropped in the city center.

What’s included

Your day includes hotel pickup at 8am and drop-off at your hotel or a requested location in the city center, an experienced English-speaking guide for the full day, cold bottled water throughout the tour, and transportation by tuk-tuk or minivan depending on group size. You pay the Angkor Archaeological Park entrance fee separately at the ticket office when you arrive.
