The experience
You start from your hotel and drive to Angkor Wat, the 12th-century temple built by King Suryavarman II. The guide walks you through the outside and inside of the temple, explaining its three levels and five main towers: the structure that became Cambodia's national symbol and appears on the country's flag. From there you move to Ta Prohm, the tree temple, where massive roots have grown over and through the stones, then to Bayon Temple, known for its carved stone faces covering the structure. You also pass through the South Gate of Angkor Thom City, which has five gates and stretches three kilometres on each side.
The tour ends at Phnom Bakheng Mountain, a 79-meter hill about 1.5 kilometres northwest of Angkor Wat. Built in the 9th century by King Yasovarman I, it sits at the centre of the archaeological park and offers panoramic views across the entire complex. You watch the sunset from the top, where five sandstone sanctuaries and the remains of 108 small towers frame the light. The mountain is the oldest temple in the park and one of Cambodia's most visited sites for this reason alone.
The tour runs 5 to 7 hours depending on your pace and how long you linger at each stop. You travel in an air-conditioned car or minivan (the size depends on your group), with a local guide who speaks English, drinking water and cold towels provided. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included. Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes that cover your knees and shoulders when entering the temples. Temple entry tickets are not included and must be purchased separately.

Top questions
What is Angkor Wat and why is it on Cambodia's flag?
Angkor Wat is a 12th-century temple built by King Suryavarman II with three levels and five main towers. It became the national symbol of Cambodia because it represents the soul of the country, and the government placed it on the nation's flag to honour its cultural significance.
What makes Ta Prohm Temple different from the other stops?
Ta Prohm is known as the tree temple because massive tree roots have grown over and through the stone structure, creating a distinctive appearance where nature and architecture are intertwined. It stands out visually from the other temples on the tour.
How high is Phnom Bakheng Mountain and what will I see from the top?
Phnom Bakheng Mountain is a 79-meter-tall hill located 1.5 kilometres northwest of Angkor Wat. From the top, you get panoramic views across the entire Angkor Archaeological Park, making it one of the most popular sunset viewing spots in Cambodia.
What is Angkor Thom City and what will I see there?
Angkor Thom City is an ancient walled city that stretches three kilometres on each side and has five gates: the South Gate, the Ghost Gate (Gate of the Dead), the Victory Gate, the North Gate and the Killing Gate. You stop at the South Gate and explore the Elephant Terrace during the tour.
Do I need to book temple tickets in advance, or are they included?
Temple tickets are not included in the tour price and must be purchased separately when you arrive. Your guide will help you with the process, but you pay for entry at the site.
What should I wear and bring on this tour?
Wear comfortable walking shoes because you'll be on your feet at multiple temple sites. You must cover your knees and shoulders when entering the temples, so bring clothing that meets this requirement. The tour provides drinking water and cold towels, and you travel in air-conditioned transport, so you don't need to bring much else.
