The Experience

I didn’t expect the first thing I’d notice at Angkor Wat to be the smell—kind of like warm stone after rain, mixed with incense from someone’s morning offering. Someone called it the Tomb Raider temple but it felt more like stepping into a dream where nature wins for once. A little boy tried to sell me postcards; I bought one and he grinned like we’d shared some secret. By then my legs were tired and my brain was full of stories Dara told about kings, gods, and wars that shaped Cambodia. I still think about that cool shade under the banyan trees.
