Angkor Wat & Angkor Thom: Full Day Temple Tour from Siem Reap
Three temples, one day: how to see Angkor without arranging it yourself
You're picked up from your hotel at 7:30am and driven to Angkor Wat, where your English-speaking guide walks you through the world's largest religious monument and its Hindu-Buddhist architecture. You then move north to Angkor Thom and Bayon temple, with its 200 carved stone faces, before a lunch break at your own expense. The day ends at Ta Prohm, where fig trees overtake the temple ruins, and you're back at your hotel by 3:30pm.

The Experience
Your guide meets you at the hotel lobby at 7:30am—early, but it matters. The temples fill up fast, and starting before the heat peaks means you actually see the stone instead of squinting through crowds. Ours was a local named Sophea who'd worked the Angkor circuit for twelve years; she knew which corners of Angkor Wat stayed quieter and where the light hit the carved faces at Bayon without the tour groups blocking the view. The air-conditioned van picks you up, and the drive to the complex takes about thirty minutes depending on traffic in Siem Reap.
Angkor Wat itself is the world's largest religious monument—that's not marketing, that's the actual measurement—and the scale doesn't hit you until you're standing in front of it. The central towers rise over the jungle canopy, and the outer walls stretch so far you can't see where they end. Your guide walks you through the layout: the Hindu-Buddhist architecture, the 38 years it took to build, the galleries carved with thousands of figures. You move at your own pace, which means you can linger at the reflecting pools or move through the inner sanctum depending on what holds your attention. From there, you head north toward Angkor Thom, the ancient capital city that once housed the Khmer Empire. Bayon temple sits at its center—the one with the 200 enormous stone faces stacked on the towers, each one slightly different, each one watching a different direction.
Lunch is on your own, which gives you a break and a chance to eat where locals eat instead of at a tourist restaurant. After, the final stop is Ta Prohm—the temple the jungle is slowly reclaiming. Fig trees twist through the walls and across the roofs, their roots thick as tree trunks, and the whole place feels less like a ruin and more like something nature is deciding what to do with. You wander the corridors and courtyards, and it's quieter than the earlier temples because fewer people make it this far into the afternoon. The van brings you back to your hotel around 3:30pm, which gives you time to rest before dinner or explore Siem Reap on foot.
