The carved faces at Bayon are massive enough to see from across the temple grounds.
An Angkor Wat sunrise tour with a professional English-speaking guide covers four temples in six to seven hours, starting before dawn at your hotel. You watch the sunrise over Angkor Wat, then move through Angkor Thom to see Bayon's distinctive stone faces and Ta Prohm, where tree roots have wrapped around the masonry. The experience
The tour starts no later than 5:00am with pickup from your hotel. Your guide drives you to Angkor Wat in the dark so you're positioned before the sun clears the horizon. After the sunrise and breakfast, you continue to Angkor Thom, the second-largest city of the Angkor era, stopping at the South Gate before entering. The pace is built around the light and the crowds: the early start gets you to the main temple before the heat and the tour groups arrive.
Bayon temple sits at the center of Angkor Thom and is known for the mass carving of smiling faces across its stones. A feature you won't see anywhere else in Cambodia. From there, you move to Ta Prohm, where the temple's masonry is intertwined with old tree roots, creating the look of a structure being slowly reclaimed by the forest. The movie Tomb Raider was filmed here, and it's one of the most photographed spots in the complex. The whole route takes in the scale and the variety of what the Angkor era built: a working temple, a royal capital, a meditation on impermanence.
You choose your vehicle at checkout (a sedan, a minivan, an SUV or a big bus), and the same guide and itinerary work for all of them. The tour includes bottled water and cold towels. The Angkor Park entrance ticket (1-day pass) is bought separately on arrival. Gratuities are recommended but not required.
