Blue Hole National Park, managed by the Belize Audubon Society, sits deep in the jungle — you'll hike 50 minutes through tropical forest with your guide before you even reach the cave entrance. It's physically demanding: the descent into Xibalba (what the Maya called the underworld) involves rappelling, scrambling over rocks, and sliding down mud. This tour isn't for casual strollers. You need real fitness, sturdy hiking sandals or sneakers, and the willingness to get muddy and uncomfortable for a few hours.

After you've explored the cave chambers and your legs are shaking a little, lunch arrives — homemade and hearty, with a soft drink included. Then comes the payoff: the Blue Hole itself, a deep inland cenote filled with rainwater and spring water, cool and clear. You swim here to rinse off the cave mud and let your body recover before the drive back to San Ignacio.
