The experience
The day starts with a scenic drive into the mountains, followed by a 10-minute walk through the jungle to reach the cave entrance. Your guide introduces the local flora and fauna along the way, then leads you through 200 yards of dry cave passage before the water begins. Once you're in the kayak, the cave opens into an underground river where you float past stalactites and stalagmites, listening to water dripping from the ceiling. The passage is narrow and intimate: small groups mean you're not paddling in a crowd.
After floating through the cave system, you emerge into the Inland Blue Hole cenote, a natural sinkhole with open water where you can swim. The cenote is fed by underground springs and sits in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by limestone walls. Lunch (fresh vegetables and handmade tortillas) is served along the route, so you eat before or after the swim depending on the day's flow.
The whole outing takes about three and a half hours from start to finish. All equipment, a first aid kit, and a certified guide who speaks English or Spanish are included. Children from age 4 can join, and the activity suits all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or during pregnancy.
What’s included

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (4 to 17 years). Children under 4 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What exactly is cave tubing versus cave kayaking on this trip?
This activity combines both: you walk and paddle through dry cave passages on foot for the first 200 yards, then transition into a kayak to float down the underground river past stalactites and stalagmites. The tubing part is the floating section through the water-filled cave.
What happens if I'm not a strong swimmer?
The cenote swim is optional and the guide will support you. Most of the activity is floating in a kayak rather than swimming, so weak swimmers can still enjoy the cave passages and choose to wade or skip the cenote swim.
Is the Inland Blue Hole cenote the same as the famous Blue Hole in the Caribbean?
No, they are different. The Inland Blue Hole is a freshwater cenote surrounded by jungle in the mountains near San Ignacio. The famous Blue Hole is a marine sinkhole in the Caribbean Sea, much larger and requiring a boat trip offshore.
