The experience
The day starts with a scenic hike through the rainforest to the river's edge, where you're fitted with an inner tube, life vest and headlamp. From there, the gentle current does the work. You float along the cool river as it winds into a series of interconnected caves. Sunlight filters through openings in the limestone ceiling, illuminating stalactites, stalagmites and ancient flowstone formations overhead. Your guide points out how the Maya once used these caves for ceremonial purposes, turning the geology into storytelling rather than just a float through rock.
After emerging from the final cave chamber, you float the last stretch of river beneath open sky before returning to shore. The second part of the day shifts to the canopy: you move through a zipline course above the jungle, with guides managing the technical setup so you focus on the ride itself. The combination means you're not watching someone else's adventure. You're operating the equipment, reading the current, and moving through the landscape under your own power.
Hotel pickup and drop-off within San Ignacio Town are included, along with lunch, snacks, punch and all gear. Groups stay small by design, which means a relaxed pace through the caves rather than a rush. The full outing runs most of a day, so bring a swimsuit, a change of clothes and a reusable water bottle. A moderate level of physical fitness helps. The activity is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy.

Is this one for you?Choose the Cave Tubing & Zip Line option if you want both the water caves and the canopy in one day. The Cave Tubing Adventure alone gives you the float and Maya history without the zipline. Either way, the small-group pacing means you're not rushed, so families with younger kids or older travelers can move at their own speed.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (11 to 14 years); Child (under 11).
What's the difference between the cave tubing adventure and the cave tubing with zipline option?
The Cave Tubing Adventure focuses on the rainforest hike and float through the cave system with your guide. The Cave Tubing & Zip Line option adds the canopy zipline course afterward, so you experience both the water caves and the aerial route. Both include hotel pickup, lunch and all equipment.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer for the cave tubing part?
No. The river current does most of the work as you float on an inner tube with a life vest. You're drifting through the caves rather than swimming, so the activity suits nearly all ages and fitness levels, though a moderate fitness level is recommended overall for the full day.
What happens if there aren't enough people to run the tour?
A minimum of two passengers is required for the tour to operate. If the group doesn't meet that threshold after confirmation, you'll be offered an alternative date or a full refund.
