You'll temper chocolate, learn about cocoa varieties, create and decorate three chocolate bars, and prepare a spiced Aztec hot chocolate using ancient techniques. The chocolatiers guide you start to finish, so no experience needed. You take home your handmade bars, a certificate, and free museum access — all in one afternoon session.
Hands move across the marble counter, tempering chocolate under the eye of someone who knows exactly what they're doing — one of the expert chocolatiers at BO-YO in Vienna. You're the one holding the spatula. The workshop starts with a short introduction to the chocolate-making process itself, the theory behind getting the texture right, then moves straight into the work. You'll learn about different cocoa types and what makes one chocolate taste nothing like another, but mostly you'll be doing the thing: melting, cooling, working the chocolate until it's ready to pour into molds for your three bars.
The real draw isn't just the technical part — it's that you leave with something you made. Each of your three chocolate bars (300 grams total) gets decorated however you want it: nuts, sprinkles, dried fruit, whatever's on the table. The chocolatiers are there the whole time, so you don't need any previous experience; they handle the setup and walk you through each step. After the bars are done, you move into the second half of the workshop, where you'll prepare Xocolatl, the original Aztec hot chocolate recipe made with chili, vanilla and cinnamon using traditional tools and methods. It's spiced, rich, nothing like the sweet stuff you're used to.
You get a signed certificate from the Chocolate Museum Vienna 'BO-YO', free admission to the museum itself with your workshop ticket, and you take home everything you made. The whole experience runs 2 to 3 hours depending on the group size. Kids as young as 3 can attend (though they need an adult with a ticket too), and the workshop is designed so families and solo adults work through it together. Public transport gets you there easily, and the museum is set up so you're not juggling outside food or drinks — everything you need is part of the experience.
