The experience

Your guide picks you up from a selected Sydney CBD hotel and drives about 45 minutes to Featherdale Wildlife Park, where you'll get close to native Australian animals: kangaroos, koalas, and native birds. You have the chance to pose for a photo with a koala, something most visitors come for. From there, the group heads to Echo Point in Katoomba, where the Three Sisters rise as a natural rock formation. Your guide explains the Aboriginal legend behind the name and points out the Jamison Valley and the blue haze that gives the mountains their name, with time to take your own photos.

Scenic World is where the day shifts from sightseeing to doing. You ride the Scenic Railway, which descends at the world's steepest incline, then board the Scenic Cableway: a fully enclosed cabin with a glass floor that lets you look straight down over Katoomba Falls and across to Orphan Rock and Mt Solitary. If the glass floor isn't for you, solid flooring with seating runs around the cabin's edge. The third ride, the Skyway, carries you back across the valley. All three rides are included, and the views from each one are the reason people make the trip.

Lunch is on your own in Leura Village, so you choose where and what to eat. The day finishes with an optional ferry ride down the Parramatta River back to Circular Quay or Darling Harbour (at your own cost), which bypasses peak-hour traffic and gives you views of Sydney's waterfront real estate on the way back to the city center.
