The experience

The day starts at Sydney Zoo, where your guide leads a short walk through the Australiana precinct to see kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, emus and wombats, then you get a complimentary digital photo with a koala before 30 minutes of free time to explore on your own. After that, the coach heads west for 1.5 hours into the Blue Mountains: a UNESCO World Heritage region of towering sandstone cliffs, cascading waterfalls and forested valleys that opens up into sweeping views across misty blue ridges.

Leura village is the lunch stop, a picturesque mountain town where you buy your own meal and have time to wander boutiques and local cafés. From there the tour moves through Gordon Falls Lookout, where rainforest and fresh mountain air frame the water, then to Echo Point: one of the Blue Mountains' most iconic vantage points. The Three Sisters rock formation rises dramatically above the Jamison Valley from here, and it is the sight most visitors come for.

The afternoon belongs to Scenic World, where three separate rides showcase the landscape. The Scenic Railway is the world's steepest train, dropping you to the valley floor; the Scenic Cableway carries you back up through the canopy with views of Orphan Rock and the Three Sisters; the Scenic Skyway is a cable car suspended 270 metres above the valley, gliding across Katoomba Falls. All three are included in the tour price. A final stop at Cahill's Lookout offers panoramic views over the Megalong Valley before the return to Sydney.
