The experience

The tour departs from Sydney CBD and heads west toward the Blue Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage site about two hours' drive away. Echo Point is the first stop: a viewing platform where the Three Sisters rock formation rises from the valley floor, and the guide explains the Aboriginal stories behind the landscape. From there the group moves to Scenic World, where the Unlimited Discovery Pass opens three rides that most visitors pay for separately: the Scenic Railway descends the steepest working railway in the world down to the valley floor, the Scenic Cableway carries you back up from the bottom with views of the Jamison Valley unfolding beneath, and the Scenic Skyway is a cable car suspended 270 metres above the ground, crossing the valley and passing over Katoomba Falls.

After Scenic World, the route includes Cahill's Lookout, a quieter vantage point overlooking the Megalong Valley where you can step out and photograph the mountain landscape without the crowds. The tour then moves into Leura, a mountain village with tree-lined streets, boutique shops and cafés where you have free time to eat lunch (at your own cost) and explore at your own pace before the drive back to Sydney. The vehicle is air-conditioned throughout, and the guide travels with the group at each stop.

Some options pair the Blue Mountains tour with a Sydney Harbour cruise: either before the mountains in the morning or after the return in the evening, depending on which option you choose. Infants can sit on an adult's lap or use a specialized infant seat if you request one.
