The experience

The tour starts before dawn so you're in position when light hits the Teton peaks and wildlife moves. Your guide drives the backroads: the Gros Ventre River corridor where moose habitat runs thick, Schwabacher Landing for riverside photos with the mountains behind, Mormon Row's historic barns, and Oxbow Bend where the Snake River bends hard beneath Mt. Moran. The route is not fixed. If a grizzly appears or elk are moving, the guide changes course to chase the sighting instead of sticking to a schedule. That flexibility is what the private format buys you.

You'll take short half-mile walks to overlooks and viewpoints: Jenny Lake Trail, Signal Mountain Summit Road for a view down into Jackson Hole, and the Willow Flats and Pilgrim Creek areas around Jackson Lake, where grizzly country opens up. Winter tours swap some of these for a visit to the National Elk Refuge with a sleigh ride included, where you watch elk, bighorn sheep and, if luck holds, wolves. The guide carries binoculars and spotting scopes so you're not squinting at distant animals. Lunch is a picnic in the park with your choice of sandwich in summer, or at Palate Restaurant on winter tours.

Eight hours is long enough to cover ground without rushing, and it's the time the operator built the "See Wildlife or Your Tour is Free" guarantee around. You're not guaranteed a particular animal, but you're guaranteed to see wildlife, and if you don't, you get your money back.

What’s included

  • Binoculars and spotting scopes for wildlife viewing.
  • a picnic lunch with your choice of sandwich in summer or lunch at Palate Restaurant on winter tours.
  • Waterloo Sparkling Waters, chocolate, healthy trail mix, fresh fruit and granola bars.
  • Mike & Jen's Hot Chocolate, Purity Coffee Sachets and a selection of teas.
  • hotel pickup in Jackson and an experienced local guide in English.
  • in winter, a sleigh ride at the National Elk Refuge.

Is this one for you?Private format means the guide changes route to chase wildlife sightings instead of following a fixed itinerary, so you're not locked into a schedule if animals appear. It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What animals am I likely to see on a Grand Teton safari from Jackson?

Moose, bison, elk, mule deer and bighorn sheep are common. Grizzly bears, wolves and coyotes are possible depending on the season and where the guide finds them. Winter tours at the National Elk Refuge focus on elk herds, bighorn sheep and wolves.

Can I walk around Grand Teton National Park on this tour, or is it all driving?

You'll take short half-mile walks to viewpoints and overlooks like Jenny Lake Trail and Signal Mountain Summit Road, but guided hiking is not permitted in the park. The walks let you explore on foot without the constraints of a full hike.

What happens if we don't see any wildlife on the tour?

The operator's "See Wildlife or Your Tour is Free" policy means you get a full refund if the tour doesn't deliver wildlife sightings. The guarantee backs the guide's knowledge of where animals are and when.

Is the National Park entrance fee included in the tour price?

National Park admission is separate and costs $20–35 per vehicle. The tour price covers the guide, transport, lunch, binoculars and spotting scopes.

How does a private safari differ from a group tour of Grand Teton?

Private means the guide adapts the route and pace to wildlife sightings without waiting for other passengers' preferences. If a grizzly appears or elk are moving, you chase it instead of staying on schedule.
