The Experience

The tour starts with pickup from your Jackson hotel and heads straight into the park. A local guide drives the route and stops at the places that matter: Mormon Row, where the Moulton barns stand against the Teton backdrop and ground squirrels dart across the sagebrush; Oxbow Bend, a curve in the Snake River where the water holds a mirror image of Mt. Moran and white pelicans, trumpeter swans and blue herons gather; Jackson Lake at the base of the peaks; and Jenny Lake, a glacial moraine lake where you board a shuttle boat for a ride across the water. The boat drops you at the trailhead for a one-mile non-guided hike to Hidden Falls—short enough that most fitness levels manage it, and the waterfall is the payoff.

Breakfast comes early (you choose a burrito, egg muffin, or yogurt and fruit) and lunch is a sandwich—turkey, ham, roast beef or vegetarian—on wheat or gluten-free bread. Both are included, so you eat without stopping to hunt for a restaurant. Binoculars come with the tour, which matters because the park's grizzlies, bison and pronghorn antelope don't announce themselves. A guide who knows where to look and when makes the difference between a sighting and an empty field. The whole day runs eight to nine hours, which is enough to hit the main stops without rushing through any of them.

The boat ride on Jenny Lake is only available May 15 through September 21, then again September 26–28; it closes for maintenance September 22–25, 2025. If you're booking outside those windows, the tour still runs but the Jenny Lake portion becomes a different stop. Rain or shine, the tour operates, so pack layers and a jacket. The minimum age is 6 years old; if you're traveling with younger children, the operator can arrange a private tour.
