  • See Jackson Lake
  • Explore Jenny Lake

The Experience

The tour leaves Jackson Hole in the afternoon and heads straight into Grand Teton National Park, where the Teton peaks rise 11,000 to 13,000 feet straight up from the valley floor with no foothills in between. Your guide drives the main wildlife corridors—Oxbow Bend, Jenny Lake, Pilgrim Creek, the Gros Ventre Road—stopping to glass for bears, moose, bison, elk, foxes and beaver. Oxbow Bend is where the Snake River bends back on itself and mirrors Mt. Moran; the guide watches for white pelicans, trumpeter swans, blue herons and occasionally grizzlies along the still water.

Mormon Row Historic District breaks up the drive—a cluster of original homestead barns built by Mormon settlers in the early 1900s, set against the mountain backdrop. Jenny Lake sits at the base of the Tetons and feeds into the Snake River system; the Gros Ventre Road runs along a creek that is prime moose and pronghorn habitat. The timing is built around sunset, so the light hits the peaks as the day closes and the animals are most active.

Hotel pickup and drop-off in Jackson Hole bookend the day. Binoculars are provided. Park entrance fees are included. You choose your sandwich—turkey, ham, roast beef or vegetarian on wheat or gluten-free bread—when you book, and it arrives as your picnic dinner partway through the tour. The guide speaks English and leads the whole route; children from age 6 are welcome, and the tour runs in all weather, so dress for the conditions.
