The experience
You're picked up from Jackson or Teton Village and driven into the park with a naturalist guide who knows where to find wildlife and what the landscape means. The day starts at Mormon Row Historic District, where you walk among the homesteaders' houses and barns (the Moulten Barns are the centerpiece), and learn the history of the people who settled here. From there the guide takes you to Schwabacher Landing, an offshoot of the Snake River where moose, muskrat and birds move through reflective beaver ponds backed by the mountains.
Oxbow Bend is the next stop, a bend in the Snake River that was crucial to indigenous peoples and is now a grizzly bear hotspot. You'll have binoculars ready and time to watch. The guide drives you to the top of Signal Mountain for views across the whole park: in summer, wildflowers cover the summit. Jenny Lake, one of the park's most visited areas, gets its own stop with the visitor center. You'll also see what the Menor brothers built when they chose this location for their ferry and general store, and may visit the Church of the Transfiguration. The return journey follows the Moose Wilson road, where the guide watches for wildlife along the way back to Jackson or Teton Village.
Park entry fees are included, and the air-conditioned vehicle keeps you comfortable between stops. You bring a lunch to eat at a spot the guide picks. Snacks and a selection of beverages travel with you. The whole day runs six to eight hours. Note that international visitors may owe an additional National Park entrance fee collected when you arrive, not at booking.
